The Story Siren and you should head over there straightaway to check out what's hot in books right now.
I'd like to start with a little gushing about the wonder of modern libraries. I know many of you are already aware of (and fully utilize) all of the amazing conveniences the library has to offer (for free!). But, for those of you who love to read and haven't been to your local library lately, I'm here to tell you that you are missing out!
I have always loved libraries and am a card carrying member/supporter of three of my local ones. However, going to the library sometimes felt like a chore (not always, I do like browsing the stacks sometimes). It has been a great deal easier lately (like the last two years) to download a book for my Nook or order a book from Amazon then to get in the car, drive to the library, remember the names of every author I wanted to check out and then dig through the stacks to hopefully find the books.
Well, friend...enter the marvel of the modern library system. Libraries now utilize two lending systems that have brought me back in full force as a frequent borrower:
1. The Hold System: Okay, so they have been doing this since my grandma was checking out books about Victory Gardens, but I have never used this service. I think because I didn't really know how to or what I wanted. Well, enter the internet. I discovered that I can put holds on my wishlist books right from my laptop and they will e-mail me when they are ready for pickup! (I'm way behind, I know, but to me this was like discovering a Book Fairy Godmother who granted my every book wish!)
2. E-Lending: The future of digital library books still hangs in the balance. (Here's a New York Times article about the debate.) Libraries and publishers are still trying to hash out the details and recently several publishers have pulled their books for digital library catalogs. I could write a whole article about why I think this is a ridiculous move on their part, but for now, I'm loving the book options that my local library system is offering me.
So, here's to saving some money in 2012 and reading myself cross-eyed with some borrowed books!!
So, on to the goodies:
(The Night Circus! Finally! And Wither! It was like Christmas Revisited when I found these books. I devoured Wither in one sitting...)
(I've already read and reviewed Need, Chime and Bad Taste in Boys. Fun, quick reads!)
Purchased Nook Books:
(Oh Cinder, I loved you so! I had to buy this the minute is came out because I had heard so many great things about it - all true. Entwined and Hereafter were crazy-cheap for my Nook. Under the Never Sky was another one I had heard great things about, but I have yet to start it.)
ARC's (Via Netgalley):
Well, that's all folks! I know it's a boatload of books, but I haven't posted an IMM in a few weeks. So, this is really for the past month.
Don't forget to stop by The Story Siren and share some of your newest acquisitions! I can't wait to see what has been added to your TBR pile!
