Shelf Candy Saturday (17)

Shelf Candy Saturday is a meme that celebrates the many times unrecognized, but invaluable hard work of book cover designers. They say never judge a book by its cover, but you know you do!!
So now, run on over to Five Alarm Book Reviews (the creators of this fun meme) and check out more awesome covers!

Today I did a little book shopping at my fave, Half Price Books, and picked up a couple of books largely based on their covers alone. (Although, the blurbs make them sound pretty darn good too!) So, with that in mind, I wanted to share them with you today.

It’s a lousy first day on the job for Nina Blackman when a patient, loopy from the anesthesia, bites her. At least he was cute. But for real drama she can’t beat the next evening. Nina wakes up with a set of razor-sharp fangs, bionic vision, supersonic hearing, and a taste for blood. But there’s a good explanation: It’s her patient, Long Island vampire Greg Statleon. Actually they’re perfect for each other—if Nina’s willing to commit to one man for eternity.

When Marty Andrews gets bitten by a mangy mutt while walking her teacup poodle, her blond hair darkens, the hair on her legs starts growing at an alarming rate, and her mood swings put her dream job as a sales rep for Bobbie- Sue Cosmetics in serious jeopardy.

Then a drool-worthy man shows up at her door claiming that he accidentally bit Marty. And since he's a werewolf, she is now, too. Thinking Keegan Flaherty is clearly insane, Marty refuses to believe a word until a kidnapping makes her realize there's more at stake than just her highlights. And she must put her out-of-control life in the hands of the man who makes her blood run wild in more ways than one...

The books look fun and remind me of the tongue-in-cheek paranormal style of Charlene Harris' Sookie Stackhouse Series. You can't tell from the pictures, but the covers have several shiny and raised up places.

The artist for both covers is Katie Wood and the designer is Diana Kolsky, Senior Book Cover Designer at Penguin Books. I couldn't find out much info on either one of these great artists, but I sure appreciate having the fruits of their labor sitting prettily on my book shelf!

Be sure to head to Five Alarm Book Reviews (FABR for the cool kids :) ) and see what everyone else is featuring this week!

  1. Both of these books sounds like fun reads. Even though I can't see the raised and shiny parts- I think both covers have such a nice style. They both draw me in and make me want to read them! Thanks for sharing.

  2. OMG! I freakin love these covers. Accidentally Dead is my favorite of the two. This illustrator is very talented. Who knew that dead could be so cute? LOL. I have to give these a read. Thanks for sharing.

  3. These covers are really awesome. I love it when authors allow illustrators to have a go at their covers. It really allows them to express the story through some detailed sketches instead of splashing a photo or two. Ill add these to my list now :)

Oh btw I have a giveaway running at my blog, if u havent read any of the titles, u should enter, as I would love to send you the prize :P But ofcourse rafflecopter chooses the winner.
