Shelf Candy Saturday (18)

Shelf Candy Saturday is a meme that celebrates the many times unrecognized, but invaluable hard work of book cover designers. They say never judge a book by its cover, but you know you do!!
So now, run on over to Five Alarm Book Reviews (the creators of this fun meme) and check out more awesome covers!

This week, I'm going to go off of the rails a little bit, but I saw these beautiful movie posters and I couldn't resist sharing them with you!

Since they are both based on books (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and The Hobbit), I thought they might fit in with a Shelf Candy post. I'm thinking they will probably be the book covers for the movie tie-in editions, but I can't wait that long!

I love this poster! The lighting is amazing. The fog is creepy. I love that Lincoln is shrouded in mystery with his tilted hat, the axe, his fancy chair. Is that a skull in the moon? Brilliant!

The movie starring Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is scheduled to be released June 22nd. It is based on a novel of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith, which is amazing BTW.

I couldn't find out info on the designers of this spine-tingling poster, but I'm obsessed with it now and I will get answers, friend. I will get answers...

Another amazing poster! Look at Bilbo go! The colors and lighting are magical and if I didn't want to live in the Shire already, I certainly would now. The details, lighting and colors are gorgeous.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is based on the amazing novel by J.R.R. Tolkien and serves as a prequel to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The much-anticipated movie stars Luke Evans, Hugo Weaving and Evangeline Lilly and is scheduled to be released December 14th. Just in time for the holidays!

The poster was designed by Eclipse Advertising, who are also the creative minds behind the posters for Tangled, Cars, Water for Elephants and many more. You should checkout their website to see more beautiful creations!

That's it for this week, guys! I promise to hit the books for next week's SC, but I just had to share these with you!

Be sure to head to Five Alarm Book Reviews (FABR for the cool kids :) ) and see what everyone else is featuring this week!

  1. Both posters look beautiful, but I like The Hobbit one more as it sets the tone for the storyline plus the colour and lighting retain that look of The Shire that we're familiar with from The Lord Of The Rings.

    Nice posting.

  2. These are both amazing! One is quite beautiful, just look at the scenery out that door. The other is downright creepy, which is the intent, I am sure. I would live to see this work make it to the covers. Thanks for sharing these.

  3. I saw trailers for both of these last week! Looking forward to The Hobbit.

  4. I love that you picked movie posters this week! I never would have thought about it but man...maybe I should! I have seen both of these and they look rocking. Great picks this week.

  5. These are both just AMAZING!! I love them both!! However, I do prefer the Hobbit poster a tad more, simply because it's not creepy-looking. Desigh-wise, though, the Lincoln poster is just as fabulous as the Hobbit one.

You know, you're probably right -- both of these will most likely be the covers for the movie tie-ins. So you're ahead of the game, girl!! Kudos for that!! : )

  6. At the risk of sounding like every other comment... LOL....these really are amazing. I absolutely love the Abraham Lincoln poster. The color and the way that he is sitting in a chair, in a pose that doesn't really belong outdoors... yet it fits and its eery.... I have heard a lot about this movie and I have to say, I am really, really intrigued.

The other poster of course is gorgeous too. I love it and i think you made some great choices this week!

    1. Thanks! I can't wait for both of these movies to come out. If the posters are any indication, they are going to be great!

  7. I just bought Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, so excited about getting stuck into it. Awesome posted btw! While I like the book cover, I wish it was the poster... its more creepy and cool :D

    1. I just bought it, myself. I had a preview that I listened to on Audible, so I knew I would like it. I know, the poster's awesome, right? There is another version as well of the same pose, but in the library during the day and one of him on a huge chair like the Lincoln Memorial statue.
