Shelf Candy Saturday (20)

Shelf Candy Saturday is a meme that celebrates the many times unrecognized, but invaluable hard work of book cover designers. They say never judge a book by its cover, but you know you do!!
So now, run on over to Five Alarm Book Reviews (the creators of this fun meme) and check out more awesome covers!

Last week I discovered that Lauren Oliver has written a companion piece to Delirium - Hana. Number one, I was crazy-excited because I love Delirium, and number two, the cover is so darn gorgeous!

Check it out:

It's a simple cover, but the design is so beautiful. I love the colors of the flowers and the way the title just glows! The lighting is great and the shadows add to the level of detail for me. I think this is my favorite of Oliver's beautiful covers so far (including Pandemonium).

Book Scoop (Goodreads):

In the world of Delirium, love is a disease. And like all eighteen-year-olds, Lena and Hana must take the cure.

At the start of their last summer of freedom, they were the closest of friends. Until Hana made a decision that tore them apart... In
Delirium, we heard from Lena. Now, Hana gets to tell her side of the story. And nothing is what we first thought.
Hana is a powerful, moving and beautifully told original eBook short story, with a shocking twist that will leave you with your heart in your mouth.

The cover was designed by Erin Fitzsimmons, who also designed the other covers in the series. I found this article on the thought process behind the Delirium cover by Publisher's Weekly. Then, I checked out her website and found more beautiful covers to share with you:

Fitzsimmons amazing work also includes the covers for Kelley Armstrong's The Gathering series, A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies and several scrumptious Fashion design covers. I highly suggest you check out her website, I found many new books to add to my TBR and my eyes were happy and satisfied from looking at all of the pretties!

That's all, folks! Be sure to head to Five Alarm Book Reviews (FABR for the cool kids :) ) and see what everyone else is featuring this week!

  1. I have this designer coming up. Very talented! This cover is so pretty and perfect for spring. All of the Lauren Oliver books are done well.
Thank you for sharing your pick. It is nice to see this particular cover, as it is not one that has gotten the face time that it deserves. I like this cover much better than the eBook cover. I am not really sure why they don't use the same one.

  4. This is an incredibly beautiful cover!! It looks like a simple one, but the flowers are very detailed and realistic. The cover also looks a bit eerie, because the background is dark. I LOVE it!! The flowers also remind me of 18th-century still life paintings by Dutch artists. GREAT Shelf Candy pick!!

As for the other covers you're showing us here, I LOVE the one for "The Secret Brotherhood of Heartbreakers"! It has a very magical look to it, with the girl softly blowing stars around, while gently cradling them in her hands. I also like the scrollwork around the word "Heartbreakers". This is another GREAT cover!!

Thanks for such a FAB post!! : )
